Built for grass, shrub and sapling clearing, this excavator flail mower features a direct drive shaft, interchangeable Y-flail and hammer blade options and a rear chain safety guard for continuous roadside and property vegetation work.

Features

Flail Mower - Direct drive shaft

Direct drive shaft

The hydraulic motor couples straight to the rotor shaft inside a protective casing. No belts, no cogs and no power lost between the circuit and the blades, so the full flow goes into the cut.

01
Flail Mower - Rear chain safety guard

Rear chain safety guard

A chain curtain behind the rotor slows and contains material leaving the rear of the head, for working beside live traffic, fences and buildings.

02
Flail Mower - Interchangeable/replaceable blade options

Interchangeable/replaceable blade options

Two blade types on the same head: Y-flail blades for long grass and light growth, hammer flails for chipping saplings, bushes and shrubs. Both reverse for a second edge and replace when worn.

Built to fit the machine you run

Nothing here is an off-the-shelf pattern that you have to make work. Every unit is manufactured to your machine's tonnage, hitch and pin centres, so it bolts up to Caterpillar, Komatsu, Hitachi, Kobelco, Volvo, CASE, Kubota, Yanmar and Takeuchi alike. Send us the make, model and pin sizes and we match the bracket before it ships - if your machine isn't on this list, it still fits.

Hydraulic Grab

The hydraulic grab is better than any Christmas pressi. I use it on my farm dealing with trees and firewood. Also pipe laying. Try lifting 450 dia 12m long HDPE pipe and the grab fits perfect. OK the little Kubota knows it got a big fish on the hook but I can do what I can't do otherwise. Great choice - by me, great product thanks to you.

Hydraulic Grab & Auger

Great company to deal with. Excellent quality hydraulic grab attachment. The company was so nice to deal with I placed another order for a different attachment. Also kept me updated on my order from start to finish. Received my new auger and it is an amazing piece of kit coupled with a 350mm auger and I got the 1m extension also. Had a bit of time to test everything out and the grab is great for moving posts rocks and anything else to save my back. The auger has plenty of torque and because I'm in a bit of rocky ground I got the combination auger and it's busting through it quite well. Still very happy with my order and Aussie Buckets support and after sale check in just to see how everything is going.

Frequently asked questions

What is an excavator flail mower? An excavator flail mower is an attachment with hinged blades on a rotating shaft that cut grass, light scrub and roadside growth. It is also called a flail head or boom mower. Aussie Buckets flail mowers cover 2 to 30 tonne excavators across four builds, driven directly from the auxiliary circuit.
What is the difference between a flail mower and a mulcher? A flail mower swings hinged blades to cut grass, light scrub and roadside growth and suits maintenance mowing. A mulcher uses a fixed-tooth drum to grind standing timber and stumps into chip and suits land clearing. Choose the flail mower where vegetation is cut, the mulcher where it has to be reduced.
Can a flail mower cut on a steep batter? Yes, and it is the main reason contractors choose one. The excavator boom puts the head onto batters, table drains and steep verges while the machine itself stays on level ground. A tractor-mounted slasher has to sit on the slope it is cutting, which limits how steep it can safely work.
What size excavator does a flail mower need? Aussie Buckets flail mowers cover 2 tonne to 30 tonne excavators across four builds, from a 631 mm cut on the smallest to 1,431 mm on the largest. Hydraulic flow, not machine weight, sets which head a machine can drive, so send your auxiliary circuit figures with your machine make and model.
Can you replace the blades on a flail mower? Yes. Blades are interchangeable, reversible and replaceable, so each one gives a second working face before it is changed out. Blade profile can also be re-specified for the work, which matters if the same head moves between soft grass and woody regrowth through the year.
How much does an excavator flail mower cost? Aussie Buckets flail mowers start at $9,975. Price moves with head size and machine class, and 0% finance is available on approved purchases. Every head is protected by a 5-year warranty and lifetime technical support. Get a tailored quote against your machine details.
